What is the cost for faith formation?
In living our vision to “Love God, Serve Neighbor, and Nurture Disciples,” we offer all faith formation and sacramental preparation programs at no charge. It is our hope, as you prayerfully consider your family’s commitments, that you will support the parish with your time, talent and treasure as faithful stewards.

Families Encountering Christ Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring non-school aged children?|
Yes. We are delighted to keep families together. All children are welcome to attend; however, there is no nursery. Click here to learn more about a preschool option.
Must both parents attend?
Our goal is to have the whole family participate. Yet, we understand that family life is hectic and this might not be possible.
What if one parent isn’t Catholic?
You are most welcome to attend with your family even if you are not Catholic. It is our joy to partner with you in raising your child in the Catholic faith.
Can I switch groups and times throughout the year?
No. Because we desire to build community, all groups will be the same throughout the year.
If I cannot make one of the monthly sessions, can I do the other session that month?
No—again because we want to build community within our groups. However pick up the materials to do at home.
Did I see something about meals? Are these included?
Yes and yes! When we meet, we’ll eat. We believe there is great value in family meals. We also know that your family schedules are busy, so we’ve tried to make things easier for you. For the Sunday Afternoon session, lunch will be available after Mass and before the start of the program.
Elementary Faith Formation FAQ
When does my child need to begin faith formation?
It is never too early to teach your child about Jesus and how much God loves them! However, formal faith formation is required beginning in first grade if you would like your child to be eligible to celebrate First Reconciliation and First Communion in second grade.
When is my child eligible for First Reconciliation and First Communion?
Here are the prerequisites for sacramental preparation.
- Baptism (a copy of the baptismal certificate is required)
- Completion of a full year of faith formation the year immediately prior to sacramental preparation
- Children are not eligible to receive these sacraments before second grade
- Kindergarten isn’t considered a preparatory year for First Communion
- At St. Andrew, children typically prepare first for First Reconciliation in the Fall and then prepare for First Communion in the Spring.
We moved from another parish. Does faith formation from that parish “count” for sacramental preparation?
Yes. We will need documentation (letter or email) from your previous parish confirming successful completion of a full year of faith formation.
Are there formation opportunities for younger children?
Yes! Our Families Encountering Christ program welcomes children as young as Kindergarteners who are age 5 by August 31. In addition, the Sunday Afternoon sessions will provide a Pray and Play Program for Pre-K and K children. The At-Home faith formation program offers a Kindergarten component in addition to a curriculum for grades 1-5.
We also invite preschoolers and elementary aged kids to join us for Children’s Liturgy of the Word on Sunday mornings. CLOW is offered during both Masses on Sundays from September – June.
Youth Ministry FAQ
Is Youth Ministry the same as Faith Formation?
Faith Formation for youth in Grades 6 – 12 consists of two components: GRACE Events and either Families Encountering Christ or the Home Program. In addition, monthly youth nights are scheduled and open to everyone regardless of participation in Faith Formation!
Youth Ministry also encompasses additional opportunities for youth in grades 6-12 to come together for social, service, and spiritual events. Check the Youth Ministry website for upcoming events.
I have a child preparing for Confirmation. Is Faith Formation required?
Yes. Sacramental preparation requires parish-based faith formation, Catholic School, or Catholic Home School. Please see the Confirmation page for more information.
Is my middle or high school child required to attend Youth Nights?
We hope those in middle and high school will come as often as they can! Youth Nights provide an opportunity for youth to pray together and build community. And have some fun, too! Learn more here!
My middle or high school child is homeschooled or attends a Catholic School. Are they able to participate in Youth Ministry events?
Absolutely! We would LOVE to have them at all eight Youth Nights, parish GRACE Events, and any additional Youth Ministry events that are scheduled throughout the year.
