Ignatian Prayer – General Info

Ignatian spirituality is rooted in the experiences of Ignatius Loyola (1491–1556), an aristocrat whose conversion to Christianity began while he was recovering from war wounds. Ignatius, who founded the Jesuits, gained many insights into the spiritual life during a decades long spiritual journey during which he became expert at helping others deepen their relationship with God. Its basis in personal experience makes Ignatian spirituality an intensely practical spirituality, well suited to laymen and laywomen living active lives in the world.

Ignatian prayer is imaginative, reflective, and personal. St. Ignatius Loyola encouraged people to develop an intimate relationship with a God who loves them and desires the best for them. Ignatius Loyola trusted human desires. He believed that our deepest desire is to return God’s love. Ignatius Loyola also trusted feelings. He believed that feelings of joy and sorrow, peace, and distress, were important indicators of the path toward fruitful decisions and deeper union with God. At the heart of Ignatian prayer are the Spiritual Exercises and the Daily Examen.

Abide in Me
  • A 9-week program for spiritual growth that will help you deepen your prayer life and bring you into a closer relationship with Jesus
  • Based on themes found in the Spiritual Exercise of St. Ignatius of Loyola
  • Co-ed group that meets for 1.5 hours weekly for faith sharing
  • This is not a Bible study. The purpose of this program is two-fold:
o To learn how to pray with scripture.
o To offer participants an opportunity to come together, share their prayer experience with each other and see how God is transforming each of them by pouring His graces upon them.
  • This program was created by the Marian Servants at the Cenacle of Our Lady of Divine Providence in Clearwater, FL.
