Who is My Neighbor?
With the war of aggression by Russia in Ukraine continuing into the third year, many families have been displaced and are in desperate need of assistance, especially as a new front has opened up in the Kharkiv north east region adjacent to Russia.
The Uniting for Ukraine Humanitarian Refugee program was established by the U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Service (USCIS) two years ago and to date 187,000 Ukrainians have come to America on a two year program, which has recently been expanded. With the war continuing and expanding, many more are desperate to leave. But in order for them to leave, they must have US Supporters, assistance with transportation and assistance with temporary housing until they can live independently.
A local Apex charitable foundation has been extremely effective in channeling assistance to many of these people. MG Global Service Foundation has collected over 98 million frequent flyer miles, collected over a half a million dollars, flown 2,700 Ukrainians and hundreds of pets and matched approximately 600 Ukrainians with sponsors and hosts. Many parishioners have provided assistance over the last two years in the form of sponsoring, hosting refugees families along with donations of frequent flyer miles and cash to provide a safe haven for thousands of Ukrainians.
